Best Bangkok Hotel (so far...) Hotel Cabochon www.mywelltraveledfriend.com

Like most of my well traveled friends I have stayed in more hotels then I care to remember and this is by far one of THE best Hotels in Bangkok. I have also spent a lot of time visiting Bangkok both traveling through and living there, you can see more of my tips on BKK here….
I decided I wouldn’t dwell too much on hotels. There are so many sites that do this bigger and better Trip Advisor being the most obvious but also my new favorite the recently launched A Hotel Life. I had the pleasure of meeting both Ben Pundle a fellow Brit and Amy Risley founders of this site while living in London and NYC. There well traveled experience is superior and insight into all aspects of “hotel life” including the local areas are thorough and refreshing. Check it out A Hotel Life and follow them here. PS if you ever need an Asia correspondent im ready and willing!
Anyway Hotel Cabochon is an exception to this rule. This place is fantastic. My ratings of a great hotel start with value followed by comfort and finally location. You can have good or bad staff and food experiences at the most famous and fabulous hotels so I try to ignore this although of course it plays a factor.

Opened in 2012 TheCabochon has all the amenities of ahigh end Bangkok hotel; great location, restaurant, swimming pool, bar and a great front desk service but without the crazy price tags. The hotel is nestled down a quietSoi 45Sukhumvit which makes for a very calming effect after your inevitable hot & hectic Bangkok day.

The atmosphere here is a mixture of modern colonial chic and laid back lodge the official line being “1920’s Shanghai” although im not sure I picked up that vibe. The interiors are cosy and decorated with eclectic finds including some fabulous vintage Louis Vuitton travel trunks in the coccoon of the hotel library / breakfast room.

My room was wonderfully comfortable Belgium linens, free local phone calls, rain shower, private balcony and complimentary tropical fruits, snacks and soft drinks.

There are lots of little extras that I haven’t even mentioned vintage shop anyone! anyway suffice to say TheCabochon lives up to its name a truly well polished gem my top tip, go visit.
